Smart Mobs: Gunshot sound detectors: Chicago

Smart Mobs.com reports that Chicago is considering deploying Gunshot sound detectors in high crime areas. Interesting idea. This reminds me of something from a sci-fi movie where cops can be rushed to the site of a crime with sensors noticing abberant behaviour all over the place. Then again, privacy advocates may look at these sensors from another perspective.

A9.com - Amazon's new search engine

A9.com the new, much talked about search engine from Amazon has gone live today. Its pretty cool. With a wrapper around Google and access to Amazon's book search (that allows you to get pages from books containing the item you searched for), this is an invaluable too. They also have an 'FAQ' as to why A9 should be your preferred search engine.

Tax implications of outsourcing/offshoring?

I wonder what the tax implications of outsourcing are, when the outsourcing is done offshore. If a company X pays company Y in another country to perform a task, I guess company Y does not have to pay taxes to the government to which company X has tax liability to. Is this different if company Y has a base in the country company X is located in? What is a person living in the same country as the original company receives a contract and sends it to his company Y in the second country - where does this person pay income tax for this contract?

I need to check up with my friends with MBAs or ppl in the offshoring business for this.

Inc.com | Angel Investors

This seems like a good reference to learn more about Angel Investors - how to finance via Angels as opposed to a VC firm etc. This article on angels is rather comprehensive.
